Downtown Brighton has such a cute look and perfectly incorporates some nature into the small town charm of the urban setting. I am captivated by the buildings and unique features like the open-air amphitheater.

I'm so excited to finally be sharing this unique location with you! It's nature with a twist, thanks to the amazing rock garden feature. Kids will LOVE climbing around and you will get some great candids from their adventures!
Maybury State Park has a special place in my heart because it is one the first places I ever did a session! It was also the first session I did after starting Katelyn's Lighting & Location course and I was so excited to see how much better my photos looked after just a couple of lessons!!!!
McHattie Park might be small but it packs a huge variety into a close space. Located on the edge of South Lyon's downtown area, it brings the charm of old buildings along with giving you access to that small town feel of the downtown.
Greenmead is smaller than Greenfield Village and bigger than Mill Race Village but is more accessible to the public than both.
Nestled in a little valley, Shiawasee Park feels intimate and secluded even while being right in the middle of Farmington.
I found a couple of hidden gem locations in Novi, Michigan in the forms of Lakeshore Park Beach and Pavilion Shore Park. Only about a mile apart, both are situated on Walled Lake and let you get up close to the water for those gorgeous water portraits.
Hines Drive is a Metro Detroit area favorite for bikers, joggers, rollerbladers, dog walkers... pretty much anyone who wants to get outside and enjoy nature. It also has some beautiful spots for portrait sessions. One thing about Hines Drive is that it can be closed if we have had a lot of heavy rain so if you want to take photos there, it is a good idea to have a backup plan in place, just in case.
Island Lake State Park has some beautiful scenery for photo sessions. There are birch trees, beaches, fields, and paths. You can have a variety of backgrounds and some are more unknown than others, which is good because it means we wouldn't have to worry about people as much.
If you want to brave Ann Arbor, there are some amazing locations for portraits! The hardest part is finding parking, but there is some public parking on Thompson Street that gets you close to these locations I'm going to show you.
For those who want a mixture of a more urban look while still including that natural look, Ann Arbor is just about perfect. It's also nice because you can find a lot of classic looking buildings. |
Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
