This downtown Frankenmuth session was so much fun and we were blessed with beautiful sunshine! I've been to this cute town several times but this was my first portrait session there and it has so much to offer in the way of photo locations! Natalie totally rocked this session and we had so much fun!

I'm never mad about reschedules. Want to know why? Because almost without exception, things turn out SO MUCH BETTER! Could we have done Flint's photos in Downtown Farmington and Shiawasse Park on the original date? Sure. We could have. But we would have missed out on MAGIC! This was such a beautiful day. Sunny, warm, just perfect for photos!!
The flowers will start peeking out soon and that means it's time to start thinking about getting outside!!!! While I love winter, I do miss shooting outdoors and I am so excited to announce that I am now booking for spring mini sessions!!!
There are so many little things that are exciting to a new photographer. You work so hard and then something happens. A little break that just might propel your business forward.
This was Danielle's second senior session. She had done one with the photographer who took her sisters' senior photos and I saw the images; they were very nice. The graduation ceremony puts together a slideshow of the graduates' baby and senior photographs. I assumed that they would use one of the images from the other photographer. That was fine; I wasn't expecting it. Danielle's mom replied to my email after I sent her the gallery and said that they were using one of my images as the slideshow picture! I was really surprised and honored. This is a big deal for me. Three of the senior photographs will be mine: Danielle, Maliek, and my brother. For a brand new photographer, it's a big opportunity. My name is not on the photos, but the photos will be in front of a lot of people; people who might have a kid graduating in the next year or two. Maybe they will ask the graduate who took their photo. Or maybe I won't get anything out of this. That's fine. Yes, you hope to get referrals and I use the photos in my portfolio to hopefully bring in new clients, but that's not ultimately why I do it. It's nice that my clients are so happy with their photos and that I got to capture this special time in their life. You only graduate from high school once and it is such an honor to record the feelings and emotions for them for the future. I don't take that lightly. It wasn't exactly a dream shoot, but she was pretty much a dream client. The weather was cold, dreary, and cloudy. But that meant I got to practice what I've been learning about finding the light. There were some locations that we couldn’t use, but we got plenty of poses and locations. I also got to work on catchlights in Danielle's eyes. I LOVE her eyes! She has the most beautiful eyes that sparkle and are enhanced by the light. And boy, can she rock the model face!
If you can spend just a few minutes with Danielle, her joy becomes apparent. I have had the privilege of knowing her for her entire high school career. Danielle is full of joy and laughter. Her smile lights up the room and she takes every challenge head on. She seems to be constantly smiling. Danielle is a champ. It was pretty cold the day we did this shoot and she wasn't in the warmest clothes, but she didn't complain. A few hours later, she texted me to say she had come down with the flu! She did this shoot in the cold, with the flu! Simply incredible. (Thank you, Danielle, for not giving me the flu, too :) She has dealt with a lot in her life and faces whatever comes her way with grace and determination. It has been so amazing to see her grow in so many ways over the past four or five years that I've known her. Danielle, it is such a privilege to call you friend and to be your friend. You are an amazing young lady and it has been wonderful to grow alongside you these past years. You bring encouragement and joy everywhere you go. Congratulations on your graduation and I can't wait to see where God leads you next! I haven't done many senior sessions at this point in my career. I was connected to Maleik as he is graduating with my brother. The session presented some challenges with lighting, but despite that, we managed to get some good pictures. Each session presents its own challenges that need to be overcome and will help me grow as a photographer.
Maleik is a quite boy who was very coachable. I'd demonstrate exactly what I'd like him to do and he did it. Oh the differences between teenagers and children :) But I like doing both kinds of sessions. I really liked the outfit that he picked out for his pictures. Bowtie and suspenders; very smart looking. The whole effect matched the look I tried to achieve in his photos. I'll be doing a few more pictures for him on graduation day. God's blessings, to you, Maleik, as you finish one stage of your life and go on to the next. Congrats Class of 2018! |
Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
