Every November I am intentional about looking for blessings and being thankful. I try to find at least one thing each day that I'm grateful for. Some days are easier than others but it is a good exercise. I shared about the first half of the month in this post, if you want to go back and see the beginning.

This was a good month. It was not too busy so I got to breathe a little bit. I always like to have some margin in my life and November gave me that after many busy months. I saw some incredible beauty over the course of this month. I'm blown away at how much beauty surrounds us on a daily basis, but we miss it so much of the time.
Looking for gift ideas? Want to support small businesses? Being a small business owner myself, I love supporting other people in their own businesses. Almost every shop on this list is either someone I know or something I've personally used. A couple are brand new to me but I love what they are about.
It happened over a month ago but I can still picture it in my mind.
I'm sitting at the dining room table in my friends' house. The doors to the patio are glass and I can see beautiful fall morning light shining through leaves and on the plants. A soft breeze rustles leaves and stalks. I'm listening to a playlist of movie soundtracks. Forbidden Friendship just finished. It's moments like these that feed my soul. Every November, I challenge myself to find at least one thing each day that I am thankful for. I'm practicing looking for blessings and gifts in even the smallest of places. It's stretching and humbling and I would like to make it a year-long habit, eventually. We're halfway through the month, so I am sharing what I have so far.
It's amazing how much can change in four years. In 2018, I went to the Driven Women conference in Grand Rapids with some friends. It was a small conference but amazingly well done and I still remember things that I learned there. Verity Conference is what Driven Women has turned into.
"How did this tradition get started, you ask? Let me tell you... I don't know".
That may be my favorite line from Fiddler On The Roof but it reveals something important about how we view and participate in traditions. What role do traditions play in our lives and how much power should we give them over us? We are entering a season that is saturated with traditions and I think it is a good idea to take a deep dive into what we do and why we do it. One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp is one of my favorite devotionals of all time. I'm an overall positive person but giving thanks? That can be hard. And giving thanks in the hard? Almost impossible. Each November, I make a concentrated effort to give thanks. To look and see the blessings that are always around but I don't always notice. Will you join me?
