At the beginning of this month I said that I felt like October was a lighter month than the past few months had been. Haha, that's funny! I feel like I've been going non-stop all month. Wow! For a month when I didn't think I had much planned, a lot sure came up. It was busy for sure but so, so fun.

Did you know that you are a creative? Yes, you! Even if you can't draw a stick figure, you are still a creative because you were created in the image of the Creator God. Everyone creates and everyone is called to create.
You all know that I don't do much in the way of couples photography because I don't do engagement sessions or weddings. But when Amanda reached out to ask about doing photos for their three-year dating anniversary, I was all in. They wanted a mix of fall colors and urban settings so Downtown South Lyon and McHattie Park were the perfect combo for us. I love shooting in small downtowns because you get a homey feel while also getting that urban look and it's way less crowded than bigger cities.
How and what should we pray for our work?
As a Christian who owns a business, I get caught up in the idea sometimes that there is "God work" and then there is "my work" but really, all work should be for God because all work is from God. Jordan Raynor's books have been instrumental with helping me understand work in a healthy way and prompted me to write a prayer for work that anyone can pray because it doesn't apply to photographers or entrepreneurs or females. It's for anyone who works and that is all of us. I encourage my clients to print out their photos and I make it easy for them to do so through their gallery. But what products should you get? I recommend certain products based on the type of session you did.
I always recommend printing out your photos. Why take them if you don't display them? But when it comes to printing, does it matter where you go? Well, yes and no. Really, it comes down to what exactly it is you are printing.
Fall is the favorite season of so many people and the leaves turning color is a popular backdrop for photos. I have three things for you to keep in mind when planning for fall color photos and they may surprise you!
No matter what kind of session you're preparing for, there are a few things you can do to help make your session a success. This is not an exhaustive list, by any means, but these tips will definitely be helpful for you. I also tried to be clever and make them all start with the same letter for easier remembrance :)
I've always resisted change. I used to absolutely LOATHE it when I was a child, and while I've gotten much better, I still don't like it. Opportunities equal change and, for me, that means opportunities can be scary. I've been reflecting on opportunities lately so I thought I should blog about it.
My hands-down favorite thing about fall is the light. It's just incredible. Other favorite things are that it is getting cold, the bugs are dying/going away (!!!!), pumpkin treats, and I get to start pulling out my winter clothes. Oh, and I do love the windy days that are so prevalent in the fall.

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
