Just like that, we are done with January! I don't know about you, but the months can fly by and suddenly half the year is gone! Back in December, I had some last-minute sessions with people who needed Christmas card photos or a picture for family and it got me thinking about something. Why do we wait until Christmas and add one more thing to our plates?

It's an easy element of your outfit to overlook but it can make a huge difference! I'm talking about shoes! You spend a lot of time and put a lot of thought into your outfit for your session and I would hate for your shoes to distract because we didn't remember to put thought into them as well!!
Way back in October, I mentioned in one of my community posts that I set up a local meet-up for photographers in my area. I'm trying to make a real-life community where we can support each other and form friendships. It did not go as I would have planned.
I have had a love-hate relationship with my hair for a LONG time. I'll go into the details of my hair journey in another post, but this post is about how I finally can enjoy my air-dried hair!!!
Back in October, I purchased my third Katelyn James course. I have loved following her and learning from her and she has made such an impact on my business. This new course, her Business Collection, just might have the greatest impact yet!
That photo is not me and my brothers but it could be (minus the blond hair). I have two younger brothers which has been good and bad, depending on the day and what they are doing :) But seriously, I love my brothers and I have so many good memories of growing up with them.
I've now crossed the Mississippi four times in my life! Some people were teasing me about how I wanted Mom to drive so I could really look at the River when I should be used to big bodies of water (Great Lakes, anyone?) but a river is just different and this is a very iconic river!
I also have now been in Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska. The latter two are much hillier than I would have expected and there are a TON of windmills (sorry, wind turbines) along the way. You might be wondering, "why Nebraska for a vacation?" My answer is, "friends and commitments." She won't smile no matter what. He is throwing a temper-tantrum. You just wanted a nice photo and your kids won't cooperate. What do you do?
It's was a long journey with one client but I have learned so much through that one experience!! The family I did photos for last summer - Three Generations - ordered a canvas print. The grandmother who paid for it sent me the sweetest card and that was the end of it.
Or not. I read a lot more non-fiction these days (my plan worked!!) but still way less than fiction, so doing this post still makes sense. Some amazing books ended up on my shelves this past year, including some advanced reads, so I'm not quite sure how many books will be on this wrap up list. I'll try to keep it to fifteen or fewer :)

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
