I'm not sure spring is really here. We had not one but TWO snowfalls this month. Nothing huge, but it did stick to the grass. It's much prettier than rain, but I know that it's not great when one wants to start a garden. Speaking of...

If you have a reader in your house, especially one who reads above grade level, the middle school and early teen years can be a STRUGGLE to find books for them to read. I read well above my grade level but was not old enough to read adult books. Even Christian books for adults have things in them that 12 year olds don't need to read! I would get massive stacks of books from the library each week because I read the short book so quickly.
As a parent, you don't necessarily have a ton of time to screen everything your kids want to read and there is a LOT of junk out there these days. I have a list of some series/books that are great for those in-between years! I'm never mad about reschedules. Want to know why? Because almost without exception, things turn out SO MUCH BETTER! Could we have done Flint's photos in Downtown Farmington and Shiawasse Park on the original date? Sure. We could have. But we would have missed out on MAGIC! This was such a beautiful day. Sunny, warm, just perfect for photos!!
I've done a LOT of babysitting in my life and you know kids love to be read to. Some children's books are quite mind-numbing, if we are being honest. I find myself adjusting things to not have to read "he said/she said" at the end of every sentence!!!! But through the years, I have found some books that are enjoyable for the adults to read as much as they are fun for the kids to hear.
I didn't take this photo with my senior photos but we did do it for my youngest brother! This is a photo that I have learned through the years is very important to have and now I try to take it at each senior session if it works out!
I read most of these books sometime in my teen years and the ones I read later I wished I'd read sooner!!! With the exception of Gretchen Rubin's book, these are all written by Christians, are about Christians, and/or have some aspect of the Christian faith about them. However, I believe that everyone can benefit from the principles within and the lessons available, even if you are not a Christian.
Because I read so much and have read so many great books, I had to include a couple bonus titles for you :) I'm an earring girl. When I wear jewelry, it's earrings for sure. I just love the variety and beauty of earrings!!! I actually discovered Creative Well Co. through one of my clients and I am so glad I did! Samantha makes absolutely STUNNING earrings!
We are one month into life at Grafted Branch Farm... sort of. I say that because life here hasn't really started yet. And our house pretty much never looks like that photo right now :) Life is still quite chaotic, unfortunately. But I will give you a one-month update!
I try to do a "get to know me" kind of post every now and again and it feels like it's been a while so I'm going to do one! It's possible I've answered some of these before in various places (blog, IG stories, IG post) but I'm sure some will be new to you as well!
I can't stop talking about this!!! Katelyn James has created a course for photography BEGINNERS that introduces you to the basics of shooting and editing and it's super affordable! I've loved her for years but this just adds to it. I wish I'd had this when I was starting.

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
