I don't know why February seems so short when it is only two or three days shorter than other months. Does anyone else feel like February is over in a blink? It seemed even shorter this year since I didn't really experience the month :) At least, that's how it felt.

You know how DOVE chocolates have those sayings inside the wrapper? Well, I had one recently that was a dare - "Take a weekend off of social media". That made me laugh, because I have been doing that for a long time now. But how have I gotten to where I am with how I use Instagram and what things have driven the changes? That's what I'm sharing today and I hope it can help you decide how to make Instagram work FOR YOU, not the other way around.
There is something so special about newborn at-home lifestyle sessions. Photographing a family in the comfort of their own home, with the newest member of the family, and surrounded by all the things that make them THEM. Colette's newborn session was an absolute joy, especially since my favorite newborn sessions are the ones that have older siblings! You never know what gems you might get when a toddler is involved :)
My word of the year for 2022 is EMBRACE. Recently though, I was thinking about that word and wondering if I should have chosen RELEASE for this year and saved EMBRACE for 2023 (I don't even like writing that number!). In order to embrace my life now, there is a lot I have to release, but I've decided they can happen concurrently.
I've been batch writing my blog posts for a while now, but usually I'm just about a week or so ahead. I like to stay somewhat current so that if events happen that inspire me, I can write about them close to real time. It also allows me to easily fit in my sessions as they occur. I have a day each week that I sit down and write another week of blog posts but this month, I knew that would not necessarily be an option. I also was getting back on Instagram after a month off and knew that I needed a plan if I was going to show up without being stressed out. Enter, batching.
Tomorrow is National Random Acts Of Kindness Day so I'm giving you some ideas of things to do to celebrate! Of course, we can do random acts of kindness anytime, so I'll also be giving you ideas that you can do throughout the year.
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!!!! Yes, as a single girl, I can still say that Valentine's Day is happy :) I would challenge you to reframe V-Day to be a celebration of more than just romantic love. We love our family and our friends, and most importantly, God loves us. Those are all loves worth celebrating!
For those of you who haven't heard, I am moving in March and all this month is getting the house fixed up because a) it's a fairly old house but more importantly b) it has had renters in it for the last eight years and they haven't taken the best care of it. Plus, there are just updates we want to make to a sixty-year-old house.
There are a handful of gifts that really stand out in my memory from all the years of birthdays. This year, I have another to add to that list. My friend gave me one of the coolest gifts EVER! And part of why I love it so much is that she put time and thought into it! To me, what makes a gift special is that you took the time and effort to get to know me, so that you know what I like. I bet you're wishing I would stop philosophizing and tell you what the gift is! Well....
Boxes, boxes everywhere! On the floor, behind the chair.
I'm not a poet so I'm going to stop there :) But this is reality in my house right now. I've never moved before, but I'm sure that some moves are more chaotic than this. It's actually organized chaos. My mom is doing a GREAT job. Still, there is something disconcerting about seeing my house "come undone". |
Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
