Photo sessions are so much more than just standing and smiling at the camera! My favorite photos are ones where people are interacting with each other and I have some favorite prompts to get those special connection prompts!

Blogging is a major pain point for photographers. It can be months, or even a year, before a session gets up onto the blog. Does it have to be this way? Can blogging help with other parts of the post-session workflow? The answers are emphatically NO and YES!!!
I can't believe I'm going to do this!!!! Remember Sarah's senior session that I just did? Well, I mentioned that I had done her brothers' senior portraits too and today I want to show you how this one family has been with me from the very beginning and how far I have come since 2017.
One of my topics for "Never Have I Ever" is about to go away. Next year I will be moving for the first time in my entire life!!!! My parents moved into this house right before I was born and stayed put! I realize that is pretty rare these days. There are a LOT of thoughts that go through my head when it comes to moving for the first time. I'm actually starting to find some things that I'm even a little excited about!
The other week, I experienced my second Instagram outage. Like the first one, I assumed it was my phone somehow and was very annoyed when I tried all the hacks and nothing worked. It didn't break my world, but I thought it was something on my end and I couldn't fix it. So I was actually glad to hear it was a problem with Instagram. But these outages really make me think about the wisdom of having all my eggs in one (or maybe two) baskets.
I have known Sarah since 2008 when her family joined the same co-op that my family was a part of. I loved growing up with her family and they are, to this day, some of my closest friends. I had the honor of photographing both of her brothers for their senior portraits and I have loved seeing Sarah grow up and become more and more comfortable with me and my family!
I am a fan of Jefferson & Alyssa Bethke books. I like their simple, relatable, honest, and fresh writing style. They let you in and make you feel like a friend, while relating really good truths. Contentment is a hard topic and I think women have a unique struggle with it, so I was very excited to find out that it was what Alyssa was addressing in her latest book!
I have seen all of the God's Not Dead movies and have enjoyed them to various degrees. If you don't know about this series, they are fictional movies that are based off of real court cases. So while the exact events are all just for the film, you know that things just like it are happening in the real world and it's crazy to realize!!!
A few weeks back, the Gospel reading in my church was from Mark chapter 10 where the Pharisees were trying to trap Jesus on the question of divorce. My pastor said that in that culture, divorce was expected. Which is sad on its own but even more so when you realize that this was Israel, God's people! It got me thinking about divorce today, especially in the Church, God's body. Don't worry, you'll see why abortion is included in a little bit.
*These are my thoughts and opinions that I have come to after thinking about these issues for a while. I'm offering things for consideration and have no training or official capacity to speak to real cases. There are a lot of voices speaking right now, but the loudest ones are all saying one point of view. People need to hear debate and alternating thoughts to form solid opinions so I am going to introduce you to some organizations that are working hard to solve problems and speak into what is going on in our culture.

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
