I know better.
I know that my worth is not found in my work. I know that my work does not define me. That's why I was so surprised and a little bit shocked when the realization hit me.

I had a really fun weekend and I hope you did to! Those of you with kids might know that the third How To Train Your Dragon movie came out on Friday. My family really likes those movies so we went to see it on opening day! (Which we've only done with one other movie that we can remember!)
I also made whoopie pies for the first time. I've wanted to try them for YEARS but I've never seen them anywhere in person. My oma has a book of whoopie pie cake and filling recipes so I took a shot at making them. It was a fun and interesting experience. Let's be honest. I have kind of an obsession with quotes and I have a lot of mottos. They all apply to different aspects of my life and they're great, simple reminders of who I want to be and what I want to do.
I just found a quote by Martin Luther King Jr. that is a great one for my business and really, everyone should add it to their motto list. I would imagine that it is fair to say most people don't like change. We are creatures of habit and change shakes up our sense of normalcy. However, some of us deal with it better than others and when I was a child, I did not handle change well at all. There are some things I look back on and think, "wow, you were really silly about that, Sarah".
Another phenomenon that I am guessing doesn't just affect me is the perception of time. Have you ever realized a big milestone was coming up and think, "how has already been that long since such-and-such happened"? Just me? Believe it or not, these two things actually have something in common. Happy Monday, everyone!!! I stayed up WAY too late last night reading so it's a slow morning over here but I am a very happy girl because...
we got the biggest snow of the winter last night!!!!!!!!!! Ahh, it is just gorgeous out! This business is about how I can best serve YOU. I polled my Instagram followers (my handle is @sarah_janephotography) to ask them if a newsletter was something they'd be interested in. The answer was yes. Now I need your help.
It is a Sisyphean task, especially if you are trying to start after years of not organizing. I totally get it. Also, how on earth do you decide how to organize your photos? As someone who loves organizing, I can over-analyze things and can think of a dozen different ways to sort my photos (or whatever I'm organizing). Let's dive in to some ways to get you started on this task.
I have watched children and cared for children since I was 8 years old (the first time I did it on my own). I'm by no means an expert, but I've learned recently about two very cool tricks for calming babies and/or getting them to sleep!
I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not perfect at what I want to share with you today. I simply am trying to find a good balance with what my job requires and letting it take over.
Technology is a huge part of the photographer's life. We use our computers to edit and check email and blog and work on our website updating our portfolio. Maybe we're engaging on Facebook and Instagram. This is all very good for our business and getting our name out there but it is so easy to get sucked in. The question becomes, "how to utilize the tools we have available without letting them consume us?". I'm going to share with you a few things I've done and I hope you'll share your own tips with me! Welcome to month #2 of 2019! We all know the big thing in February... Valentine's Day. I have some great Valentine's Day memories and I am hoping to hear about yours! But that's not why it's one of my favorite months.

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
