We beat the weather again! Moving Trevor's session date worked out in our favor and Ford Field in Northville was an excellent location for this amazing senior!

It was a senior session months in the making but we finally got Noah's senior portraits taken! I felt like this session was extra special because Noah moved right before his senior year. I can't even imagine what that must have been like, so to help him wrap up his high school career with photos that tie both schools together was an absolute privilege.
We shot at Lutheran High Westland, his school for most of his high school career, and near Nankin Mills, before going to Downtown Northville. While we incorporated his new school, most of his session focuses on the places that mean so much to him in the area where he really grew up. It's been over two years since I had this lovely family in front of my camera and I've been looking forward to it all year! You'll recognize some of these people because I am blessed enough to work with them a lot. We had an amazing time and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. I was praying hard for no rain and it held off until the next morning for us. Thank you, Lord!
It was not supposed to rain.
The day was cold and overcast but it wasn't supposed to rain. The sprinkles began almost as soon as I arrived at the location. I'd never been to Mayberry before, so I arrived early to scout locations. I started praying for the rain to hold off, just for a little bit so we could do this session. There are so many little things that are exciting to a new photographer. You work so hard and then something happens. A little break that just might propel your business forward.
This was Danielle's second senior session. She had done one with the photographer who took her sisters' senior photos and I saw the images; they were very nice. The graduation ceremony puts together a slideshow of the graduates' baby and senior photographs. I assumed that they would use one of the images from the other photographer. That was fine; I wasn't expecting it. Danielle's mom replied to my email after I sent her the gallery and said that they were using one of my images as the slideshow picture! I was really surprised and honored. This is a big deal for me. Three of the senior photographs will be mine: Danielle, Maliek, and my brother. For a brand new photographer, it's a big opportunity. My name is not on the photos, but the photos will be in front of a lot of people; people who might have a kid graduating in the next year or two. Maybe they will ask the graduate who took their photo. Or maybe I won't get anything out of this. That's fine. Yes, you hope to get referrals and I use the photos in my portfolio to hopefully bring in new clients, but that's not ultimately why I do it. It's nice that my clients are so happy with their photos and that I got to capture this special time in their life. You only graduate from high school once and it is such an honor to record the feelings and emotions for them for the future. I don't take that lightly. It wasn't exactly a dream shoot, but she was pretty much a dream client. The weather was cold, dreary, and cloudy. But that meant I got to practice what I've been learning about finding the light. There were some locations that we couldn’t use, but we got plenty of poses and locations. I also got to work on catchlights in Danielle's eyes. I LOVE her eyes! She has the most beautiful eyes that sparkle and are enhanced by the light. And boy, can she rock the model face!
If you can spend just a few minutes with Danielle, her joy becomes apparent. I have had the privilege of knowing her for her entire high school career. Danielle is full of joy and laughter. Her smile lights up the room and she takes every challenge head on. She seems to be constantly smiling. Danielle is a champ. It was pretty cold the day we did this shoot and she wasn't in the warmest clothes, but she didn't complain. A few hours later, she texted me to say she had come down with the flu! She did this shoot in the cold, with the flu! Simply incredible. (Thank you, Danielle, for not giving me the flu, too :) She has dealt with a lot in her life and faces whatever comes her way with grace and determination. It has been so amazing to see her grow in so many ways over the past four or five years that I've known her. Danielle, it is such a privilege to call you friend and to be your friend. You are an amazing young lady and it has been wonderful to grow alongside you these past years. You bring encouragement and joy everywhere you go. Congratulations on your graduation and I can't wait to see where God leads you next! |
Hi! I'm Sarah!
