I've been going to a young adult group for a good amount of time now and while I meet lots of people, it's hard to really meet folks and get to know them in the half hour we have for fellowship. I can't stick around after because I have to get home before it gets too late. This leaves me feeling a little on the outside.

I am not a mother so one might wonder why I am reading this book. There are two reasons:
1 - I like reading things before I need them. I read marriage books and I'm not married so why not read a book about motherhood? 2 - Phylicia Masonheimer talked about this book and how amazing it was and I thought, "I should read this so that I know if I can feel good about recommending it to moms". I assumed I would like it. Phylicia has a good track record of recommendations. However, my recommendation reflects me. If someone is doing something because I say it would be good, I want to have experienced for myself. So, I read the book and it was FANTASTIC!!! I'm not sure who had more fun with this senior session - Katie or me! I was so excited when she contacted me and told me that water was super important to her! Thankfully, there was a little spot where she could actually get into the water, rather than just having it in the background.
Everyone has role models; people you look up to and want to be like. It's often a singer, movie star, athlete, or some other famous person. Maybe a person from history even.
While there are a few people I look up to who have moderate degrees of fame (it'd be a stretch to really call them famous, but they are within certain circles), my main role models are several women who have been in my life. When my dad started his job, he was a single guy. He could work whatever hours he wanted. Long hours would be fine. But he knew that if he worked all hours and on weekends now, it would become expected and he didn't want to work those kinds of hours when he eventually had a family. He thought of his future while establishing his present routine.
I am a huge music fan. Music is playing almost constantly during the day. I'm listening to a playlist on Spotify as I type this. I even had a blog for a time that was devoted to music.
Music helps me process things. It is prayers and praises, heart cries and joy. Music can bring me out of a funk and help me focus on what is good when I get bogged down or distracted by other things. It is a big deal for me. I go through "favorite songs" fairly quickly. I really don't have just one favorite song (or even a top ten), but I usually have one or two for a time that I listen to a LOT! "Yes I Will" by Elevation Worship is one of those songs. We live in a digital age and printed photos or keepsakes can be forgotten, but they don't have to be. I love these little mini books that White House Custom Color sells and I am thrilled to offer them to my clients!!
When I was seven years old, an aunt gave me a gift that has shaped my life. I still have pictures and memories from that day when I opened it.
This gift was a pen-pal kit. Growing up, we never had TV so I've not really watched many TV shows. As I've gotten older, I've watched some on DVDs, but I find myself kind of annoyed by the drawn-out dramas. I guess I'm not really someone who likes story TV shows. However, there is one show that I REALLY enjoy - Relative Race.
Everyone has a gift, right?
I believed that growing up, to a point. I thought that gifts were things like musical ability, athleticism, artistic ability, and the like. Things that were obvious and tangible. It left me striving for my gift. What could it be? I wasn't gifted in the "obvious" talents, so did I not have a gift? How was that possible? Everyone has a gift, don't they? |
