Kensington Metropark is a fabulous place to take pictures! You do need a metropark pass to enter or you have to pay a small fee for a one-day pass. There are almost endless options, especially if you don't mind walking a ways, but I'm going to show you my favorite spots! At the very end I'm linking to a blog post of a session I did here. A couple of notes before we dive in: I took these photos in early May, and things were still starting to bud and leaf but it looks even better later in spring and into summer. Just something to keep in mind :) It was also the middle of the afternoon in harsh light. Depending on the time of day and the weather, certain locations may not work for your session or it could have a slightly different look than these photos. Cloudy days look different than sunny days and evening light looks different than mid-day light. I just want you to know why your final gallery may look just a tad bit different than these photos.Okay, lets get to the locations! 1. Nature Center (enter from Kensington Rd entrance) The Nature Center parking lot gives you easy access to two beautiful bridges, a pond overlook, and a great little trail that all make for gorgeous photos. You'll also see lots of wildlife milling around. They are so used to people it's crazy. The sandhill cranes will walk right next to you! 2. Turtle Head (enter from Kensington Rd entrance) I was only able to grab one photo here but what I love about it is that there is a lot of angles with water behind you. So time of day and weather are less of a problem here because you have so many options. 3. Maple Beach (enter from 96 entrance) This is a truly lovely beach but if you want to add it to your photography session, I would recommend making it your last stop for a few reasons. First of all, there is a playground right there and your kids will want to be there rather than taking pictures. It's the perfect ending because we can bribe those last smiles with promise of playtime! The other reason to end here is because when taking photos near the water, you can get wet and we don't want that in other pictures. 4. High Ridge Dr. Overlook Field (enter from Milford Rd entrance) If you want a wide-open look, this field is a great option. It's across the road from a scenic overlook and I can just imagine how beautiful it will look in the fall! 5. Cross Country Ski Trailhead (enter from Milford Rd entrance) Another field option but with a few more trees and bushes. It might not be ideal in the middle of summer but should be great in the spring and fall. 6. East Boat Launch (enter from 96 entrance) This is a spot that I would do more for senior photos than family photos. You could certainly do some family pictures here if you wanted, but space and variety are limited and it's right next to the water down a hill, so it's not great for little kids in my opinion. I love it because of the arching trees over the path. There you have it! If you want to see an example of a session I did here, check out Julianna's senior session. You'll recognize some of these spots :) I've also marked each spot on this map so you know where they are if you want to pick multiple spots for your session. There are six white stars and I've numbered each in the post. Which spot is your favorite? Would you do just one or several?
