Hines Drive is a Metro Detroit area favorite for bikers, joggers, rollerbladers, dog walkers... pretty much anyone who wants to get outside and enjoy nature. It also has some beautiful spots for portrait sessions. One thing about Hines Drive is that it can be closed if we have had a lot of heavy rain so if you want to take photos there, it is a good idea to have a backup plan in place, just in case. A quick note before we dive in. I took these photos in the middle of the afternoon in harsh light. Depending on the time of day and the weather, certain locations may not work for your session or it could have a slightly different look than these photos. Cloudy days look different than sunny days and evening light looks different than mid-day light. I just want you to know why your final gallery may look just a tad bit different than these photos. Which location is your favorite? Where would you want to take your photos? Newburgh Lake There is so much variety at Newburgh Lake. I love the building and the lamps! There are stairs and a ramp and obviously the water as a background. Just a short walk away (the little spit of land you see across in the top of the photo below) is Newburgh Pointe. You can see what it might look like to shoot here by looking at Sarah's senior session and The S Family's session. Both were during cloudy days and The S Family's session was several years ago so it might not look like my style because I have changed since then. Just to the east is Nankin Park. The first three photos are from Nankin Park and you can see an example with The E Family's session. You may recognize the second wide field from Noah's senior session. Recommended for: Family & Senior Portrait Sessions Waterford Bend Park
At the corner of Six Mile and Northville Rd, this little park has bridges, a river, trees, and a park for the kids after the session :) If you can't tell by now, I really like bridges and water. Along with stairs, they are props that are waiting for us. I used the bridge a lot when doing photos for The D Family. Recommended for: Family & Senior Portrait Sessions

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
