Did you know that you are a creative? Yes, you! Even if you can't draw a stick figure, you are still a creative because you were created in the image of the Creator God. Everyone creates and everyone is called to create. I was first introduced to Jordan Raynor's work through his book, Called To Create. That book deals heavily with the idea of "vocation". My church tradition is familiar with that term but it's rather revolutionary to may people in Christianity.
Many people think that to serve God with their work, they need to be in a church job of some sort. They think that being a missionary or making disciples is only in the context of the church. But that is not true. Vocation ties ministry into our jobs because vocation is all of our jobs. My vocation is more than "photographer". It's also sister, daughter, aunt, friend, mentor. In any job, we are called to partner with God to create something. I would highly recommend Called To Create and there is a great workbook that goes along with it that helps you get even more out of the book. I really need to read it again. Raynor's next book that I read was Redeeming Your Time. As you might expect, that book deals with how we steward our time. We all have the same amount of time, but how are we using it? Raynor looks at how Jesus spent His ministry years to draw insights that we can apply in our lives today. Currently, I am reading a devotional that Raynor wrote for workers. They are short - VERY short - devotions but they have surprising insights packed into tiny spaces. If you're interested, it's called The Word Before Work. One of the things I love most about Jordan Raynor and his work is how much he desires to help fellow entrepreneurs and people in their work. He offers so many free resources that will encourage and strengthen you because he believes that this is important. He is living out his calling in powerful ways and it's really inspiring to watch. No matter what job you have, I would encourage you to read some of these books and check out what he has to offer. You will be blessed by it. Which of these books would you be most interested in reading?
