This is my third year picking a word to focus on for the year. My process is not an exact science but I try to think of something that I've noticed needs work in my life and then find a word or short phrase that sums it up. The process is kind of neat. I enjoy it. I had a lot of ideas floating around in my head because I feel like I need to focus on rebuilding and repairing my relationship with God and really leaning into who He is. Some of my ideas were:
Be Still Abide Presence Lean But none seemed quite right. I also have dealt with a lot of changes that were not of my making of choosing the last few years and I've not handled it particularly well. I knew I needed to get to a place of acceptance and contentment but then I thought, what if rather than just accepting, I embraced the changes and embraced life? And something clicked. I am tired of feeling stuck and aimless. I feel restless and unsatisfied with where I am and my lack of direction so my word of the year is EMBRACE. Embrace God. Embrace my new life. Embrace people. Embrace life in general. It's a big word and kind of scary for this introvert. But I think I am getting to a point, if I'm not already there, where my desire for a different kind of life will trump my fear, or at least allow me to push past my fear. I read something recently that talked about how discontent can be good when it inspires us to make changes. That's where I am. I am discontent and it is forcing me to sit up, take stock, and make some changes. I have learned not to set expectations of what I think my word should look like, but instead look for how my word is impacting my year. I'll let you all know in a year what happened! I'd love to know what your word is for this year, if you've figured it out yet.
