I've been batch writing my blog posts for a while now, but usually I'm just about a week or so ahead. I like to stay somewhat current so that if events happen that inspire me, I can write about them close to real time. It also allows me to easily fit in my sessions as they occur. I have a day each week that I sit down and write another week of blog posts but this month, I knew that would not necessarily be an option. I also was getting back on Instagram after a month off and knew that I needed a plan if I was going to show up without being stressed out. Enter, batching. I took the month of January off of Instagram for the second year in a row. The platform has been kind of a stressor for me and showing up well takes a lot of time and effort. This month, time is something I don't have a lot of and I knew that my own expectations would have me stressed that I wasn't meeting them. Plus, I think going forward I won't have a lot of time to "waste" on the app. I need a plan.
To that end, I got PLANN, hoping that I could schedule my IG posts like I do my blog posts but I can't because I don't have Facebook. (Really?) However, I can make drafts and then all I have to do is post them. No more trying to figure out in the moment what to post. So even though it isn't doing what I hoped, it is helping me plan and batch. What does all this mean? It means that I don't have to worry about blog posts almost at all for this entire month! There are a few posts - a newborn session and my monthly recap - that cannot be written until just before they go live, but everything else is golden! And I have all of February's IG posts planned, plus a bunch of extras, so I should be able to make at least Monday and Friday on the app with no problem. For me, batching allows me to show up for my business and my family. It allows me to "be in two places at once" while basically forgetting about one of them. I can keep the momentum going for my website and IG account while not stressing about if I will have time to post something. I don't like being stressed. My body REALLY doesn't like being stressed. I am actively trying to find ways to lower my stress. Batching is a way to "do it all" and not feel pulled in two different directions. I'm a huge advocate for batching all the time, because it allows you to roll with life's punches without problems, but this month especially, it is saving my sanity big time. (This is a very old post, so please forgive the graphics :) Do you batch anything? Have you used a social media planner like PLANN? I'd love to hear about your experiences!!!
