Owl City has been a top artist of mine for years. I don't know for sure how I was introduced to him, but it was probably my friend Molly. Since I've been listening to his music since 20080 or 2009, it's been really neat to see how his style has developed and now I've gotten to see him in concert TWICE! And this time, it was the tour kick-off show!

People say to be a tourist in your own state and I am doing that on a very small scale this year. The first spot was a day trip to Holland. I accidentally planned my trip during the Tulip Festival and I had no idea until right before I went. *shrugs* But there is a little bit more to this than just playing tourist.
I don't talk about books a lot on here but sometimes I read a book that is so good I just HAVE to share it with others! And I would definitely recommend this to other small business owners because we can all too easily fall into hurry with all that we have on our plates.
This is a book I had heard about for years and is one of a handful of books I've read in my life that I read at just the right time, even if it was long after I "should" have read it. I took a wide variety of classes in high school, most of them through my co-op. When I think about my high school career, it's fun to know that, even the classes I wasn't necessarily thrilled to take, were still pretty good because I loved my teachers and got to do them with amazing people! While Debate and Chemistry (just to name two) were not my favorite things to take, I have some really fond memories from them all the same.
I know that you don't *have* to have a word picked before January 1st, but I always like going into the new year with that detail settled. So I was getting a little nervous as December kept ticking away and I wasn't sure what word I would be focusing on in 2023.
Eventually, I felt pretty sold on one word but then I realized that I needed a companion word for it. What would capture my thoughts and perspective? It was pretty cool to see the little things that came up in life, confirming what I was thinking. All the Bible verses I read or heard New Year's weekend had to do with the words I was planning to do. I consider that a sign. Without further ado, my words for 2023 are... My word for 2022 was "Embrace". You can read all about what I thought it would look like here, but I'll tell you right now, it didn't look much like that. As much as I try not to have expectations, I can't quite help it, so I just go into the new word knowing that it's not going to look like I thought :)
Music. I love music. I have very eclectic tastes and I have music playing almost constantly. A day where I listen to no music is a very rare day indeed. With that being said, Spotify is a very fun tool and I love getting my Wrapped every year. And now, I have Premium, which is very exciting and will probably up my listening time for next year.
It happened over a month ago but I can still picture it in my mind.
I'm sitting at the dining room table in my friends' house. The doors to the patio are glass and I can see beautiful fall morning light shining through leaves and on the plants. A soft breeze rustles leaves and stalks. I'm listening to a playlist of movie soundtracks. Forbidden Friendship just finished. It's moments like these that feed my soul. It's amazing how much can change in four years. In 2018, I went to the Driven Women conference in Grand Rapids with some friends. It was a small conference but amazingly well done and I still remember things that I learned there. Verity Conference is what Driven Women has turned into.
I don't see the world the way you do.
And I'm not just talking about beliefs and worldview. No, I literally don't see things in the same way that you do and it's all because of my job. But my job changing the way I see the world is not unique to photographers. Everyone's jobs change how they see things. Really, any time you study and spend a lot of time with a subject, it changes how you see things. |
