I took a wide variety of classes in high school, most of them through my co-op. When I think about my high school career, it's fun to know that, even the classes I wasn't necessarily thrilled to take, were still pretty good because I loved my teachers and got to do them with amazing people! While Debate and Chemistry (just to name two) were not my favorite things to take, I have some really fond memories from them all the same. My favorite classes in high school were World Religions, Leadership, Short Story (and basically any writing class), history classes, newspaper and yearbook... can you tell where my interests lie?
In history, I learned World History, did an class about WWII, and we had a class called History Through Your Eyes. That was really fun because everyone picked a different subject and then researched it all through history. Want to guess what my topic was? The history of books :) Some other classes that were interesting but didn't make my favorites list were Constitution, True Crimes (I discovered one of my favorite non-fiction books through that class), Ethics, and Graphic Design. That last one has certainly come in handy in my business! I also took classes in photography, I studied some German, and spent lots of Saturday mornings at Lawrence Tech's Xtreme Science Saturdays. The experiments were fun but my brain is not wired for science so I didn't really learn much. The best part of those labs was the ice cream they made with liquid nitrogen! Outside of my co-op, I did study groups for college credit. We studied psychology, business, and criminal justice, just to name a few. Starting to earn college credit while in high school was helpful because it allowed to figure out sooner that college was not the path I wanted to pursue. Everything I mentioned here was extra outside of my schoolwork at home. I was truly blessed to be able to study a wide range of subjects and dip my toes into a variety of topics to learn where my talents, strengths, and interests lie. I'm very thankful for my homeschooling background and for all the people who spent so much time teaching me through the years. What are/were some of your favorite high school classes? Do we have similar interests?
