Mini sessions come in MANY different forms! I know photographers who do elaborate studio setups for every major holiday, others who do simple minis outdoors, and everything in between!! There is a mini session offering for every kind of desire and I love that! Photographers can do what they love without having to be everything to everyone! I am more on the side of doing simple setups or outdoors and focusing on creating candid photos of your love and joy as a family. But no matter what style you're looking for, there are a few things that factor in to why people might prefer booking a mini session. There are a variety of reasons people might book a mini session and today we are going to go over a few of them.
1. Busy schedules. Families are busy. There is work, school, and activities. Fitting an hour session into an evening or on a weekend might be a challenge. The shorter time frame of mini sessions gives the option to get those updated photos without giving up a huge chunk of time. 2. Small children's attention spans. The younger the child, the less time they are willing, usually, to put up with photography. It's a balancing act and you have to know your child. Some children need the time of a full session to warm up to the photographer and what is going on, while others are done after 10 or fifteen minutes anyway. You know which option is best for your child(ren) but for many kids, the shorter time frame of mini sessions is perfect for them. 3. Theme. I alluded to this in the intro but the theme of the mini sessions is a huge draw for many people. Christmas minis are well-known but the options are virtually limitless. People come up with such creative themes for their mini sessions and for those who prefer to work outdoors with nature as their theme, well, there are so many beautiful locations! 4. Cost. Professional photography is an investment. Some people are not able to fully invest but a mini session allows you to get professional quality at a cheaper price. Don't get me wrong, it's not "cheap" but it is a discount from the full session investment. 5. You can "try out" a photographer. If you've never worked with a photographer before, it can be intimidating to think about spending an hour with them! Hopefully you've been following them on social media, their blog, and have been thoroughly educated in preparation for your session BUT all those things cannot always guarantee that you click with your photographer. With the shorter time frame of minis, if things aren't clicking like you thought, you don't have to be there much longer! What makes you interested in mini sessions?
