I've always loved working with little kids since I can remember. That is one thing that drew me to portrait and family photography! I love capturing their personalities and seeing the way they view the world. It's the greatest joy. So what makes a children's session special? Why might you want one? Is it right for you? First, you need to know that at family sessions, I do capture individual photos of your kids and a group photo of all of your kids. But a children's session is focused solely on them.
The goal and purpose of a children's session is to capture photos of your child at their unique age and everything that goes along with it. I mostly prompt the kids with play and fun games to get them moving and interacting. Children's sessions also come with 1-2 outfits changes (for a total of 2-3 outfits). If your kids are younger, I recommend only changing clothes once. Typically there is a somewhat dressier outfit and a more casual outfit. However, don't stress if your little one absolutely insists on wearing their rain boots, that's okay. Remember, we are capturing who they are at this age, and if your child wears rain boots, we want to memorialize that! I recommend picking a location that your children are comfortable in. Maybe that's your home or a local park. Often, parks have some nicer areas for more formal portraits. If your kids have activities that they love (like flying kites or blowing bubbles), bring those and we'll incorporate them! Children's sessions are a lot of fun and interaction. Your kids will quickly forget that they are being photographed. And I always start the "portrait time" with the oldest so the littler kids can see what it is all about. Each session is fully customized to your children's needs, but timing runs at about an hour. So who might want a children's session? Sometimes grandparents book children's sessions to get photos of all of their grandchildren together. Other times it's a mom who just wants new photos of her kids, but doesn't need a new family photo for whatever reason. Are you ready to book a children's session? I'd love to talk to you more! Do you have questions that I didn't address in this article? Leave them in the comments and I'll answer them!
