I don't have toddlers, but I have heard of some really neat ideas for traveling with young kids, as well as keeping the toy disaster in check. You might have already heard of these or maybe you have your own tricks. I'm sure this will be super helpful for some of you! Tip one is on traveling. How do you keep little kids entertained for miles and miles? I first heard this from a friend who was traveling with her grandson. She went to the Dollar Store and bought a bunch of little trinkets, toys, and games, along with a few snacks like goldfish. Once you have your supplies, there are a couple ways to do this.
It really is as simple as going to the Dollar Store, but if you need some ideas to get started, here is a small list.
Pretty much anything quiet and clean will work! It's your kid and your car, so you know what goes. On a similar note, I know a lady with seven kids and for a time, she homeschooled four of them, with the youngest being 3 and 1. The kids did most of their school with some curriculum online but there were times she needed to be helping the kids and she needed the younger two entertaining themselves. She kept some certain toys - like Playdough, Lincoln Logs, etc - that were only brought upstairs when she needed to work with the older kids. I thought it was so clever because these toys were a treat and the rarity meant that it held the kids interest longer. I think toy rotation could also be a great way to deal with toy clutter.
Have you tried any kind of toy rotation? How do you do it? What are your ways for dealing with toy clutter and keeping kids interested in their toys?
