Did you know that creatives aren't endlessly creative? We go through seasons were we have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of ideas and other times it seems like we will never have another idea ever again :) It's the creative's version of writer's block and there are things that we can do to get out of it. Some people try their hand at another creative endeavor. A painter might try knitting or a musician might try painting. Sometimes just doing something with our bodies rather than our minds is what we need. Getting outside and into nature is often very inspiring.
I've tried all of these things at different times and different things work for me in different seasons. Something that helps me in particular is to try a different style of photography. Taking pictures of something outside of my norm or editing slightly differently are ways that I exercise my creative muscles. When we went to Hocking Hills, there were things that didn't fit my normal style of photography and, by default, needed a different type of edit. Then there were things that my creative eye saw a certain way and I felt giddy when I was able to achieve the look! I find it fun to just take my camera and have no agenda but to look and see what I feel like capturing. And for the times when even that won't get the creative juices flowing, I like to color or bake. Those are my "go-tos" when my mind needs a break. What do you do to stay creative or to get back to it after a dry spell?

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
