I've never been a goal setter. Maybe it's because my parents never did things like New Year's Resolutions, but I just never really thought about it. I had/ have dreams, but I thought those were my goals. I have since learned differently. Last month, I did Phylicia Masonheimer's Grace-Based Productivity Course with two of my friends. I consider myself a planner and an organizer, but not super structured.. Phylicia's course taught me a lot and one of the things was about goal setting.
Goals are what make up dreams. That was a huge revelation for me. I thought that a dream was a goal I was trying to achieve, but a dream is a vague end point (I guess an end goal) and you need tangible goals to get there. I can say I want to go to London (dream or end goal) but then I have to figure out the steps (goals) to make it happen. As I'm typing this out, it sounds so elementary, like I should have figured it out sooner, but it's just something that never occurred to me. Now that I have a concrete idea of what goals look like, I've been setting goals each month, some personal and some for the business, of things to accomplish within that month. It's nice to have something to work towards that you know can be done in a relatively short amount of time. Dreams can be hard to go after because they always seem to still be so far out of reach. But a goal, I can see results quickly and feel like I'm actually achieving something. If you are looking to be more productive, I highly recommend Phylicia's course. I took it and it was excellent! It's totally at your own pace, but the irony is that you have to be somewhat motivated to make time to learn productivity! She teaches you actionable things to do and try and gives examples to make the concepts concrete. I really like her teaching in general and this course was just as I was expecting! Also, I'm not getting paid or anything to tell you about this. It's just something that I did and it helped me so now I'm sharing it with you! Are you a goal-setter? What is a goal you've recently accomplished? What's your next goal to work towards?
