Mini sessions are a lot of fun but they are different from a full session. There is no reason why you can't have a great mini session but education is the key so today we are going to talk about the ins and outs of mini sessions. The biggest thing to remember about mini sessions is that TIMING IS EVERYTHING. Mini sessions are fast-paced and are scheduled back-to-back so being on time is very important. If you are late to your session, everyone is stressed (not ideal for good photos) and you don't get as many photos out of your session. While mini sessions are a smaller investment, they are still an investment and need to be taken seriously.
I can't speak to how other photographers do things, but my mini sessions are focused on connection. I use poses that allow your family to interact with each other and we get photos that show genuine and authentic emotion. I think you'll be surprised at how many photos you can get in 15 minutes! I treat my mini sessions clients just like regular clients when it comes to the service and experience. You get all the attention and education when it comes to styling and making sure you are equipped to have the best experience possible. You still get your photos within two weeks. The main difference between my mini sessions and my full sessions is that minis are a smaller time and money investment! Some people wonder why mini sessions are so different from photographer to photographer. I have many colleagues who offer minis and our offerings are very different. One might offer 20 minutes and 10 photos for $100 while another offers 15 minutes and 5 photos for $250 (or higher). Here's the thing - mini sessions are still a reflection of the photographer's experience and skill. Location also plays a role in pricing. If you're just price shopping around, the variations might annoy you but if you have a desire for a personal experience or a certain style of photography, then know that you are getting a discount off of their regular price and forget about everyone else! A younger/newer photographer will have a lower price and the experience might not be as exceptional as a more expensive older/established photographer. You pay for experience; theirs and yours. What questions do you have about mini sessions? Leave them in the comments or send me an email at [email protected]. Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
