Photographers are crazy. Really, we are. Do not be surprised to see your photographer do bizarre things a make a fool of herself to get the perfect shot. You know those adorable pictures of the little kids laughing out loud. Someone, often the photographer, is being ridiculous to elicit those genuine smiles. I'm still working on my bag of tricks because, let's be honest, I'm not naturally able to be ridiculous in public. (Though at home, ask my brothers. On second thought, don't ask them). But I've still done some crazy things in pursuit of the shot I wanted. Probably the craziest thing I've done so far is climb into a bounce house with camera in hand AND my flash attached.
I was shooting my friend's church's Trunk or Treat but it was raining so they had moved the bounce houses inside. It's hard to take photos through the webbing when it's outside and there is plenty of light. The one bounce house had mesh and it was impossible to photograph from outside The other had standard webbing, but I was struggling to get enough light. I wanted the shot! There was only one option and that was to go into the bounce house myself. While I haven't been in a bounce house in many years, I imagine that it wouldn't be that hard if I wasn't holding my camera at the same time. Once I was in, the challenge was focusing while being bounced around! I honestly didn't know if I was getting anything that my friends could use. Then I had to crawl back out, mindful of the camera and trying to exit gracefully in a skirt! Not the easiest thing in the world. I was thankful that I did get some shots that worked. When you're a photographer, you have to learn to work with what you have. If you're shooting an event, doubly so. I couldn't do my job outside of the bounce house, so in I went. If you're a photographer, I want to know what the craziest thing is you've done to get the shot you wanted. If not, do you have a story of something crazy your photographer did on a session? Let me know in the comments!

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
