While the weather might stay summery for a few more weeks, summer is pretty much officially over. Most kids are back in school and I am starting to shift my mindset into the "school year mode". I thought it would be fun to do a summer recap along with my August recap. Enjoy! *Zinnias courtesy of my friends' garden. What Happened
Nicole's wedding was so beautiful! The church has no AC (why?!) but we survived and the reception was a lot of fun. I loved seeing my friends having such a good time! It was a fun surprise to discover that one of my Instagram photographer friends was photographing the wedding so I got to meet her in-person and that was neat. I always enjoy meeting online friends in real life. We stayed up REALLY late because we helped clean up and then the next day we got crepes for lunch with some friends who had also attended and just got to spend some time with them before heading home. I did go floating with a friend of mine down the cascades on the Huron River in Ann Arbor. It was not what I expected but still nice. I flipped myself twice before figuring out how to go down the cascades. It was a combination of my tube and my shoes. Once I got the trick, it was much more enjoyable. We had the best weather and I would do it again, just with a different tube. Our family reunion was very relaxed. I'm not sure what was different because it's not like we had a lot fewer people but it just seemed very low-key. My dad, brother, and I taught my cousin how to play Euchre, which I rarely play but quite enjoy. I am making great progress on the new Style Guides! I'm very excited for these and so thankful to those who are taking a look and offering feedback. When you look at the same things over and over, you start to miss things and so I appreciate fresh eyes. It's been very time consuming but enjoyable. I've learned some new things about Canva through this process so that's a win! I visited another new church and really liked it. As in, I wanted to go back the next Sunday, but I'm making myself try a few more options before deciding which ones I want to visit again/more. Our youth pastor and his family accepted a call to a different church, which just makes the idea of possibly leaving my church that much easier since they are no longer here. That whole thing has been really hard. Farm news... we have chickens!!!! Six of them to be precise. The first evening, it was apparently very comical to get them into the coop and the next day a few tried to escape but they seem to have accepted their new home and are laying eggs. I'm pretty pleased that they appear to be low-maintenance. I also dried some herbs from our garden. It took some learning of what setting to use and some took a really long time. I also learned that you cannot wash them too far in advance because despite my best efforts, a bunch of them got moldy. Live and learn. We do have some home-grown dried herbs, but not a lot so we'll still need the store for the time being. What Didn't Happen The Belle Isle trip was pushed back from this month. My friends were just too busy in August but we all still want to do it. Maybe next month :) Setting up Dubsado also fell by the wayside. I had a busy month and when I did have a few hours to work I was working on the Style Guides. I've moved it to September but I also have another large project so we'll see. I need to make it top priority because it will impact me more than the other project. Summer Roundup Things I Tried
Places I Went I was gone for the middle of June and July in one of my busiest summers of my life! While it was a bit tiring, I absolutely loved both trips and am so thankful for the opportunities! If you want to know more, check out these posts about my Cooperstown trip and this one where I talk about my Nebraska trip. Fun Experiences I spent a lot of quality time with friends this summer. I got ice cream and explored around my new town with Liesl, floated the river with Amanda, had a yummy lunch with Elizabeth, got to see my cousin Abby while in New York, went to the zoo in Nebraska, and we had a few nice gatherings with a larger friend group. I tried new things and adventured and I'm really proud of myself! I just had a really nice summer and I hope you did too! I'd love to hear about what you did!
