Oh look! Another post about reading :) I probably should do a post sometime with some of my favorite books. If you asked me my favorite book, I couldn't pick just one. Authors, however, are a different story. I don't tend to read by author. Even my favorite books, I don't generally read more by that author. Thinking about it, I don't really know why, but it's just not something I did or do. The one exception is with my action/suspense books. I do read a lot of books by the same authors in that genre. There is one author that I have recently discovered, even though she's been around for years. I am trying to read everything I can get my hands on that she wrote. That author is Elisabeth Elliot. I learned about her story as a child but only started reading her books in the past year or so and I love them. There is so much wisdom there and you can learn a lot from the lives of past Christians. Another author I like, and I've read all three of his books that I know of, is Jefferson Bethke. I like his style and how he approaches things and he makes me think about my own positions and beliefs; what do I think about this and that. On the fiction side, there are all the action/suspense authors like Colleen Coble, Lynette Eason, Lisa Harris, and Lynn H. Blackburn, etc. I haven't read everything they've written, I'm sure, but I've read a lot of their stories and I'm always excited when they are releasing a new book. Roseanna M. White is another favorite. I've read seven of her books so far (the Ladies of the Manor series, the Shadows Over England series, and then the first book in the Codebreakers series). Podcasts are a more recent thing I've gotten into. I am not really an audio learner, so podcasts are not something I can generally listen to and do something else at the same time. I know some people who listen while they clean and cook and workout. That's not a skill I have developed yet. Usually, I listen in the morning, when I wake up too early and can't sleep, or on car trips. For the longest time, I listened to Uniquely Woman, a podcast done by Phylicia Masonheimer and her friend Lisa Hensley. Phylicia doesn't do it anymore and it is now called Becoming Disciples. They had so many topics and it was always informative and challenging. Just a few weeks ago, a friend told me about Breakaway Ministries and a specific series she was listening to. I listened to that series and now I'm hooked! I want to listen to more of what they've done. Another new podcast is called After Class, and it is three theology/Bible scholars talking about topics. It's so cool to hear the additional information and perspective they can add to things I've heard my whole life.
Who are some of your favorite authors? I'm always on the lookout for more material :) Do you like podcasts? What's your favorite?
