I've been on a bit of an old movie binge lately. Think the world of Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, and Jimmy Stewart. There is something about the way they acted back then that fascinates me! The women had such grace and the way they talked... no one talks like that these days. But there is clearly a difference in storytelling because usually when I finish a movie my reaction is, "what was that?" The endings are... odd. And sometimes I REALLY don't like the way the men and women interact with one another. Let's put it this way - I have not added any movies to my established favorites list :) My favorite old movies are ones I grew up watching. Singin' In The Rain is a family favorite and Julie Andrews is one of my all-time favorite actors! She's the main reason I watch the Princess Diaries movies. Seven Brides For Seven Brothers is one of my mom's favorite movies so I saw that a lot as a child. 12 Angry Men is a movie I discovered in high school and I don't know how it can be so interesting but it's SO GOOD!!!
Some other classics that I love are Christmas movies. White Christmas is my favorite if I had to pick just one but Holiday Inn has humor too. Those would be my top two. I just love actors like Danny Kaye. Miracle On 34th Street has Maureen O'Hara. Remember what I said about speaking? Her voice is amazing! There's the barest hint of her Irish accent. And the little girl is too cute. Lastly is It's A Wonderful Life. I think it's a favorite just from watching it from an early age. The fact that Odyssey used the names from it doesn't hurt either :) There are a few movies that I wouldn't call favorites but I would watch again. The Maltese Falcon, Charade, and Rear Window are all mysteries of a sort and have some suspense. I prefer my suspense in books but these were pretty good and not too scary. Arsenic And Old Lace had some really funny parts and I think I'll deal with the creepy and bizarre parts again to see the fun. The Quiet Man has Maureen O'Hara. The oddness of the rest of it is worth it for her. Do you love old movies? What are your favorites?
