Summer is almost upon us and that means trips! Long Trips
When we took our big trip out West almost ten years ago, meals were a little bit of a challenge. Breakfasts were at our hotels and lunch was usually fast food but for dinner we often did a sit-down restaurant. However, we were traveling and staying in hotels so leftovers were not really an option. What to do? The solution my parents came up with was that we picked three meals to share. This meant that everyone got enough but there were no leftovers AND it helped save money. (Five people eating out so much adds up FAST). I don't even think it was that hard to agree on the meals. What does this look like, practically? Well, we might have gotten a salad, a pasta dish, and a burger. We'd ask for two extra plates and then we'd just divide things up. I couldn't eat beef burgers at that point so my family would cut the burger into four pieces and I probably got a little more pasta. It all worked out I actually loved doing this because one of the things I don't like about eating out is that I usually end up way too full. I think it's a great idea in general, but when you are traveling and can't deal with leftovers, this is a great solution. Short/Day Trips When my friend and I went to a conference together, we had a car picnic for lunch on the way! It was a ton of fun, allowed us to save a little bit of money, and was a great bonding time for us. While there are so many ways you could do a car picnic, what we did was bought meat, cheese, and rolls to make little sandwiches and then had some fruit and chips to go with it. We stopped in a church parking lot and ate our picnic. We ended up doing the same thing for dinner on our way home since we had enough left. This only works if you have the time to stop for about an hour for lunch, so it's best for short trips or day trips. It's also a great idea for friend groups traveling together because everyone can bring something to contribute. Do you have any travel meal hacks? What do you do for food on trips?
