I always tell people that, when it comes to photos, you want to look like a fancy version of you. Makeup can be tricky because you need a little extra but also don't want to not look like yourself! What should you do? I'll use myself as an example. I barely wear makeup. Like, hardly ever. And when I do, it's very light and subtle. However, when it comes to photos, the focus is your face and we want makeup that accentuates but doesn't distract.
The Eyes Are The Main Attraction Insider secret: photographers are focusing on eyes. That's where we set our focus point. This means that when it comes to your makeup, this is where you should be spending your time. Now, if you're someone who doesn't use eyeliner, you shouldn't show up with cat eye eyeliner but you might consider a tad on your bottom eyelid, from the inside corner of your eye to fading out about halfway across the eyelid. Use a slightly darker shade of whatever color you've chosen for your eye shadow. Definitely apply mascara. The Details Are Up To You I don't use or know about things like highlighter or bronzer, but if you have it and know how to use it, you probably should. You will want some blush and lipstick to add color. You might get done and think that, looking closely in the mirror, it seems like a bit much, but we need a little extra to really show up on camera. Just remember that it's only a LITTLE bit more. We're not going for stage makeup here. It's Okay To Get Help If you're not sure how much to do or you just really don't do makeup, there are lots of professional makeup artists who can help you! Just make sure you chose someone who is willing to listen to you because we don't want you looking nothing like yourself. We want it to be you, with makeup! Tell them you're getting makeup done for family portraits or senior photos and then work with them to find what is right for you. Looking your best for photos should be fun, not stressful! If makeup will make your photo prep stressful, skip it! It's not worth it at that point. But hopefully you can make it fun :)

I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you!
