I'm so thrilled to start working with the amazing Class of 2021!! Maggie contacted me in the middle of quarantine to ask if I would be able to do her photos when things calmed down and knowing I had sessions like this coming up helped boost my spirits during quarantine when I couldn't shoot. It's been three years since I've met Maggie and she constantly surprises me with her spirit. She balances grace and femininity with toughness and a great sense of adventure. To look at her, you wouldn't think this girl was athletic, a Ninja Warrior, and was going into an EMT/firefighter program!! Maggie is so much fun and a great sport. Nothing phases her! Not her session starting an hour late due to rain, not mud EVERYWHERE, nothing. God was good to us and the rain did stop for about two hours and we got to do our photos!
This was a new location for me - DeBuck's Sunflower Farm. The name is deceiving, since they do sunflowers, lavender, pumpkins, corn... I believe they call it agri-entertainment. It's a very neat place but if there has been any rain, the sunflower fields will be a mess! One of my favorite things was that they had designated areas roped off for photography to ensure that there were places not completely devoid of flowers!!! Bless them! I need to mention the splits photo specifically. Some time after Maggie contacted me about senior photos, she posted on her Instagram some photos of her over the years doing the splits. They are kind of her "thing". I told her then we HAD to do a splits photo at her senior session! It was so long between that time and when it actually happened that I almost forgot but Maggie didn't :) I'm so glad we remembered to capture this photo that is so special to her! I've mentioned mud, right? Maggie gave up on shoes pretty quickly and just embraced the conditions. I purposefully walked in puddles to clean my feet and sandals :) When we were all done and walking back, there was a giant mud puddle in the middle of the road. Maggie wanted to do some photos in the mud, because, why not? So she did! That was definitely a first for me and I was not expecting it at all! Like I said, she surprises me. But you know what? Maggie, with her hair and makeup done, wearing a dress and holding flowers while lying in a mud puddle, I feel like that sums her up pretty well. Lovely and adventurous all wrapped up in one package. Good luck and God bless on your future endeavors, Maggie! Picking favorites for the blog was SO HARD so enjoy an abundance of photos :)
