I've gone back and forth on whether or not I was going to blog about this. I try to stay away from political issues on the internet. Not because I don't think they need discussed but because I don't think this is the place to have those discussions. However, this is something that touches my business so I think it's appropriate for me to say something about it. Abortion has been legal in our country for many years. States have different laws on what point in the pregnancy abortion is allowed. With the announcement of New York's new law allowing full term abortions, so many stories are being shared promoting life. Life at all stages and all degrees of health. One woman shared how they enjoyed every moment of the few months they had with their daughter. Another told how her son was basically misdiagnosed. Yes, he has health issues, but he's alive!
Last year, photographer Katelyn James shared her journey of carrying a baby boy with Down Syndrome who was slowly dying inside of her. The way she spoke of him and the things she said, and continues to say, are just an incredible testimony to life. I'd encourage you to search #jamesmichaelalsop on Instagram to see some of her story. There are so many things brought up in the debate on abortion. I'm not here to debate all the special cases. I'm here to say, as a photographer who is all about families, life is precious! My whole job is about capturing memories and moments that will build families and help them grow closer. Abortion is destroying families. It's so sad. New York has made this law and they are allowed to do that. But we are allowed to voice our disagreement and seek to get it changed. If you'd like to be a part of peacefully seeking a change, I'm going to post links to some petitions you can sign. I'm sure there are many more than just these couple. My mission, my why, is grounded in the belief that every single human being is an image bearer created in God's image. Every person on earth is loved so much by God that He sent His son to die for them! That includes the unborn baby who is sick, the unborn baby who is unwanted, the mother who chooses life and the mother who chooses abortion. This is why abortion matters to me. Because it matters to God. This is a controversial topic to the extreme. Most places on the web devolve into hatred and anger and arguing. Fighting in a comment section does nothing. Please, be more proactive. Have discussions in real life. Listen to what the other side has to say. You might not agree, but listen. They are one of those human beings God loves. They are a person with thoughts, feelings, and opinions. People just want to be heard. Let them have their say but let's do it in a time and place where something can come of it. https://www.change.org/p/me-reverse-the-full-term-abortion-bill-in-new-york-state https://www.change.org/p/new-york-supreme-court-overturn-late-term-abortion-in-ny https://www.change.org/p/andrew-m-cuomo-stand-up-for-the-unborn https://www.change.org/p/legal-abortion-up-to-the-due-date-is-wrong-let-s-defend-our-most-vulnerable https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/please-ask-new-york-state-overturn-recent-abortion-expansion-laws
