As a natural light photographer, flash has always kind of scared and intimidated me. Plus, I don't like how it looks! I want the skin tones and everything else that comes with natural light. I have a flash and I have used it, but it's definitely not my preference. Well, (some of) that is changing!!!! I started listening to Rebecca Rice's podcast and following her business sometime last year. I think it started (as most photography education has for me) with a free webinar. Earlier this fall, she hosted another webinar with "The King of Flash", Rob Greene.
It. was. INCREDIBLE!!!!! I learned some super practical and easy tips and feel WAY more confident in my flash skills now. I'm still getting my practice in but now I'm not anxious about photographing indoors with limited natural light! The best part is that my flash photos can look like natural light photos! Don't get me wrong, natural light is still #1 for me, and probably always will be. I would prefer plenty of large windows, but that is rarely an option so I am very happy to know what to do with rooms that have minimal natural light. And living in Michigan, there are a lot of months where shooting outdoors is not preferred or not possible, so being able to shoot well inside is kind of a must. This opens up a lot of months that I previously didn't shoot in! Top photo by Tom Pumford on Unsplash

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
