Throughout my life, I've been asked the question, "Who's your favorite historical character?" or, similarly, "If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?". These are fairly common "get to know you" questions and I dreaded them! I never knew the answer, not because I didn't know history, but because I'm not prone to having "heroes" or anything like that. I look up to people, but they seemed to be people around me. Now, I have an answer. It's not a "one part" answer, but hey, it's an answer. Q: "Who's your favorite historical character?"
A: Elisabeth Elliot. That might seem like a cop-out to some of you, since she only died in 2015, so she's barely historical, but she is such an amazing inspiration. I'm reading many of her books and she's someone I wish I could meet, but I know I'll get to meet her in heaven one day. Her faith and the lessons she learned about life and God are sinking in and I'm trying to read as much as I can. It's a blessing to be able to learn from the life of the saints (believers) gone on before us. She's probably my answer to "if you could meet anyone..." but I have another answer too. She's who I'd want to meet of people not on this earth anymore. The person I'd love to meet who is still alive is Bob Ladouceur. He was the former football coach at De La Salle High School in California and the way he coached and used the game to teach inspires me. I love his vision and his purpose and his love of the boys he coached. He saw who they could become and pushed them to reach the high bar of expectations. I can say from personal experience that meeting people who inspire you and have impacted your life is so neat. I got to meet a lady - who has really impacted me - not once, but twice, last year. The cool thing is, she's the same in person as she is online and on social media, which is a really great thing that I hope I can achieve too. I've gotten to meet some singers/bands, which was fun, but meeting this lady and getting to really talk to her was something totally different. So... do you have a favorite historical character? Who would you love to meet if you could meet anyone? (You can say more than one person :)
