I did an Instagram post on this a few weeks back, but in a blog post I can say a LOT more :) Those of you who know me or have been reading and following along for a while have heard me talk about Phylicia Masonheimer. (Kristen LaValley calls us all "Phylitians" :) She has definitely helped me reshape and learn about faith and life and especially have a more positive view of motherhood. I wouldn't say my view was negative, per se, but the cultural trends have a way of seeping in if there isn't anything else being taught. My mindset has slowly been reshaped and I was making plans and figuring out how I'd like to do things "when I grow up", which really means when I have my own house and family. Then, I watched a talk by Heidi St. John and now I AM SO EXCITED!!! At the beginning of April, Answers in Genesis had a weekend conference for women. They live streamed a few of their sessions, which I only knew about because Phylicia was speaking and mentioned it on her Instagram account. I watched her session live and then went back to watch three of the other four. Guys, they are AMAZING lectures, all of them are very worthwhile, but the one that I am focusing on here was Heidi's talk about talking to our kids.
I had heard of Heidi St. John in the way that you kind of hear names when you are in certain communities but I didn't really know her or her work. She's a homeschool mom and she has a ministry devoted to moms. I love her focus and desire to uplift and encourage moms. She has a very positive view of motherhood and is spreading it to others. During her talk, she mentioned the influence mothers have. This was a small section of her entire talk but it had a huge impact on me. Moms have an influence to the FOURTH generation!!! Think about that. You are shaping not only the lives of your kids, but your grandkids and great-grandkids. That's a big responsibility. This idea should probably scare me, in all honestly. And someday, it probably will. But right now, I am just so excited. I am honored and amazed that God would let me partner with Him in raising and shaping these little children of His! Like I said, I should probably be freaking out, but I am just so excited for this job that, God willing, I will one day have!! Here is the video of Heidi's talk. I'm going to link the other ones as well, because they are all very good and well worth the time. Ken Ham Georgia Purdom Phylicia Masonheimer
