Labels make me wary. There are some that I proudly wear, like Christian, homeschooler, woman. But labels have a sneaky way of becoming your identity, so I try hard not to accept too many of them. However, I am a fan of personality tests because they are very helpful in understanding people. It even helps me understand myself. For the sake of discussion, I could say that my Myers-Briggs is ISFJ and that my Enneagram is 9. I did Gretchen Rubin's Four Tendencies test and I am an Obliger. My Love Languages are basically tied with Quality Time, Acts of Service, & Gifts, but don't touch me or say nice things :)
What these tests do for me are super beneficial. They help me identify why I do certain things, or am unable to do certain things, and then I am able to make changes to overcome my weaknesses. I really like getting these insights into myself and seeing why I interact a certain way. It helps me know the best ways to use my skills and also I can identify times when I am allowing my weaknesses to hold me back. But I don't define myself as these things. I try very hard to push myself and to make myself do things and not hide behind the excuse "oh, I'm an introvert". I won't let my weaknesses define me or excuse my poor decisions because "that's just how I am". I can and will rise above them. I love discovering things about myself and then using the knowledge to help me in my life. I also love discovering how to help others with their goals by knowing their types. I'm currently trying to help my brother (also an Obliger) meet his self-imposed goals. What about you? Do you like personality tests? How does knowing your "type" help you in your life?
