Little girls with cute headbands and little boys with adorable hats. Bow ties & sunglasses. How do people get babies and small children to wear these delightful accessories? It's not as complicated as you might think. If you dream of your baby wearing a headband or hat or accessory of some kind, it is CRUCIAL that you start from the beginning having them wear it. People used to ask my mom all the time how she got me to wear a hat and sunglasses and my mom always replied, "she doesn't know any different." That's it.
Consistency is key for so many things when it comes to children. If you wait until their six month photos and try to put a headband on them when they've never worn one before, or you only pull out the hat for special occasions, of course your child is not going to like that! It's a new thing, so at the very least, it is a distraction. But if every time you leave the house, they wear a hat, or if a headband is a part of most of their daily outfits, then it's second nature. Nothing new, nothing distracting, nothing annoying. I'm sure there will be some kids who don't tolerate things from the very beginning but for most kids, if you start from the beginning, they won't know any different, so if you have your heart set on a dapper hat or beautiful headband in your child's photos, start off the way you want to continue. It will make the photo experience much smoother for you and your child and get you the photos you desired!
