It is bitter, bitter cold where I live. The real feel is -24 degrees. However, since this is the first big snow we've gotten this year, I'm going to try something I learned about from one of my Instagram photographer friends: snow cream. It's like ice cream but with snow. I'd never heard of it before and I'm excited to try it. Then, a friend told us about bubbles and colored ice balls.
Apparently, if you blow bubbles in this kind of cold, they're supposed to freeze in midair. Then, if you put water and food coloring in a balloon, shake it all up, and set it outside, when you cut off the balloon, you have a colored ball of ice in your yard. The snow cream I think is colder than ice cream! It's a fun novelty. I don't know the result of the balloons yet. Have you tried any of these things? What happened? What else do you like to do in the cold? Snow Cream Recipe (from Jordan Tickle of Jordan Tickle Photography) 6-7 c. fresh snow 1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk 1/2 c. milk 1/4 c. sugar 1-2 tsp vanilla (depending on how much you prefer) Mix everything, except the snow, until the sugar is dissolved. (Shaking in a mason jar works well). Pour over snow and mix well. Eat immediately. You can add more or less snow if you like it more creamy or less creamy. If you're out of sweetened condensed mild when it snows, just add a little more milk and sugar. Enjoy!
