As hard as it is to believe, fall is almost upon us! For many people, this is their favorite time of year with the cooler weather, colored leaves, and the holidays coming! There are a wide variety of activities that you can do as a family to create fun memories during the fall for little to no money! Pumpkin patch or corn maze. There is a great place in Southeast Michigan called Three Cedars Farm that has cider and doughnuts, a corn maze, a pumpkin patch, and so much more all in one place! If you're going to be getting pumpkins for decorating anyway, go let the kids pick out their own AND support a local small business!
Pumpkin carving or painting and roasting seeds. We used to paint and carve pumpkins and I kind of liked taking out the seeds, even thought it felt so weird! It's a great family activity and if you roast the seeds, you get a delicious snack too! Bake something pumpkin. I know that a lot of people are over everything pumpkin spice, but even if you hate the hype, you have to admit it tastes good. I think cooking and baking together can be one of the most special things parents can do with their kids and (personally), I like enjoying pumpkin baking in the fall. It's a special thing that is unique to this time of year. Muffins, cookies, and cake are all easy things to make with a pumpkin twist. Hiking. When I think of fall, I think of crisp, cool, windy days. I'm not a hiker, but fall would be when I would want to hike. Plus, if you love the colors, hiking in the fall is an enchanting experience. The light filtering through the leaves is magical. You could collect leaves to identify later, use in a craft, or just try to find as many varieties and colors as possible. I've seen people make beautiful leaf wreaths that have almost every color of the rainbow. Did you know there are purple leaves? I didn't! Cider and doughnuts. I still haven't fully figured out where this is a thing, but in Michigan, we love our apple cider and cider doughnuts! The mills are only open in the fall so it really is a seasonal treat. There are a few ideas of things you can do as a family this fall. What does your family like to do in the fall? I'd love to add your ideas to my list!
