World War Two is probably my favorite time in history to learn about because I love reading about the brave men and women who risked it all to stand up to great evil. Their stories inspire me and cause me to wonder what I would have done if I lived then. Bonhoeffer is one of my "heroes" and everyone knows about Corrie ten Boom, but a lesser-known group is that of The White Rose. The White Rose was a student resistance group in Munich at a university there. Brother and sister, Hans & Sophie Scholl, are the best known of the group. I have not read as much on them or their group as other WWII events and people, but I recently read a novel about the group and it led me to read their actual pamphlets and WOW!!! They are incredible! There are only six and they are not long so I highly encourage you to read them and then go learn more about these people.
What draws me to people in this time is that they were all scared and sometimes questioned if it was all worth it. They were human and had human emotions, but they acted anyway. It just causes you to wonder what you would do in their situation and it gives me courage to face the things I'm dealing with in life. Studying courageous people helps build courage in us. Did you know about The White Rose? What era of history do you like to read about?
