Where do you fall in the birth order of your siblings? I'm the oldest of three and it's reflected in the memories I have verses what my brothers have. I've heard over and over again, and seen examples of, the idea that moms want to record their children's lives but it is overwhelming with everything else they have to do. Does this sound like you? I have nine photo albums and a baby book. My youngest brother has one and half photo albums and no baby book. Now, to be fair to my mom, she has kept a calendar for us our whole lives AND by the time my brother was born, digital photography was more of a thing, however, it does show the disparity between older and younger children.
Enter Promptly Journals. Their name says it all. They are memory journals that take all the guesswork out of what to record and when. The only thing you have to remember is to actually sit down and write! Everything else is guided. I know journaling isn't for everyone, but if you are someone who loves it and just can't find the time, or maybe you are a mom who desires to journal but has never been able to make it stick, this might be a great option for you! I also think it would be a fantastic baby shower gift!! I have not personally used them but I know people who have and I definitely want to use them for my own kids one day. There are all kinds of methods of recording your children's lives and there is no "right" way, but try things out until you find what works. How cohesive it is doesn't matter. Your kids won't care. They'll just be glad you took the time to make sure the memories were recorded some way. (Tip: Introduce your children to journaling early so that they can start taking over the responsibility of recording their own life. They'll love having their own perspective on things later on, trust me!)
