My family has done Advent devotions through the years as a family but I've never done personal ones before. This year, I am doing two different devotionals and, so far, I'm really liking them. The first one is called A Restful Advent. It is an email devotional from a lady named Mindy Larsen. My friend invited me to do it with her and I love doing things with friends that we can discuss, so I jumped in! There is a Scripture passage to read and then a short devotional by Mindy and then an "action" section of something to do to help you think on and meditate on the season we are in.
My other devotion was a gift from my Bright Lights girls last Christmas. It is by Ann Voskamp (you know how much I love her One Thousand Gifts devo :) and is called Unwrapping The Greatest Gift. It's meant to be a family devotional and used in tandem with a Jesse tree, but I'm just reading it myself. I'd never heard of a Jesse tree until last year, but the concept is really cool. The Jesse tree traces the Christmas story through the whole Bible using Jesus' family tree. It gives a "bird's eye" view of how Christmas has been promised and how God has been working towards that promise for centuries. Definitely something that would be helpful for kids, given that it is so tangible. What Advent devotion(s) are you doing this year? Do you have a favorite from years past? If you have kids, what do you do with them to help them understand what is going on this season?
