Elisabeth Elliot is one of my favorite authors. Every time I read one of her books, I learn something new and am inspired in my faith. Through her life experiences, she can put things in a way that just jump out at me and I think, "that's exactly what I needed to hear". These quotes are from her book "A Path Through Suffering". "We are seldom shown in advance God's intention in a particular trial, nor the long-term effect our obedience may have on others." Sometimes we can look back and see something that we think was the purpose, but we may never know what the reason was for a trial. And it may not even be about us really. That was an eye-opening thought.
"God is much more interested in making us holy than He is in getting a job done." Being productive is good and we were created to work and create, but if tasks and lists are in the way of Him working in our lives, He's likely to remove things so that there is room for Him to act. "The Lord gives us daily, not weekly, bread. He gives strength according to our days, not our years." This is a thought that keeps popping up. I want to know the future; how things will turn out or what will happen. If such and such happens, how will I get through it? It's wasted energy to ponder the ifs. God is faithful and our strength comes from Him. All we need comes from Him but we walk daily with Him as He provides. These ideas are not knew, but hearing them again, in a fresh way, helps me think about them. Maybe, one day, after hearing things like this multiple times, it will actually sink in and things will begin to change. Actually, I think things begin to change a little more each time we hear things like this. Have you read any Elisabeth Elliot? What is a good quote that is speaking to you right now?
