Winter snow shoots can be complex but if you plan them right, they are so much fun!!! For those who are brave enough to venture out in the cold, it can be a challenge to balance warmth with elegance but you can look very nice without freezing to death! Coats
Wearing layers (cardigans for the ladies and vests for the men) will help keep things toasty. Shawls or blankets can add a cozy element but make sure you pick out a blanket that fits the aesthetic of the photos overall. We want to be warm but we also want to avoid the bright colors and casual elements of most winter coats. If you have dress coats, definitely plan on bringing those! Scarves Speaking of blankets, your blanket scarf or other warm scarf can look cute while keeping you from freezing. Boots Suede with fake fur? Yes please!!! The best part about boots is that you can wear thick socks and no one is the wiser but your feet love you! Putting toe warmers in there is also a great idea. Hats UGG and CC have super cute winter hats if you're looking for beanies but you can also go the knitted headband route or grab one of these adorable berets. Gloves Think small and unobtrusive. Bring handwarmers to hold between shots/locations. Mittens are adorable for younger children. Hot chocolate is a must to warm up when the photos are finished and I will have you doing as many moving poses as possible to help keep everyone warm!! The key to selecting clothes for winter photos is to keep in mind the same principles for other kinds of weather. These are forever images that you want to age well, so we are going for a timeless and elegant look. We want to avoid bright colors and too many patterns. We still want to coordinate style and color. We want clothes that are true to you and your style, keep you warm enough to allow for genuine smiles because you're not miserable, but won't distract from the emotion and interaction. I have "cold weather" and "winter snow session" sections of my Family Outfit Inspiration Pinterest board if you would like some examples of the things I laid out here.
