Growing up, I heard about kids who were badly affected by social media. I didn't have any accounts, but my friends who went to public and private school would talk about that sort of thing. It makes me sad that some people deal with hurt from their social media accounts, but I have found a wonderful community. Obviously, I follow a lot of my "real life" friends. These are the ones who know me and love me and support me. I've also found people who I like to call my "Instagram friends". They are people who I'd dearly love to meet in real life, but I sort of feel are my friends, even though we only know each other through an app.
I've found other small business with wonderful missions that I'd love to support. I am encouraged by fellow photographers and I get to encourage them. I was invited to join an "Engagement Group" where the members like and comment on each others posts to get engagement up. Me personally, I think of it as the "Encouragement Group" as well. Like anything, social media can be used for harm or for good. I use mine to encourage and build up other people (besides the obvious reason - it's for my business). Good community can be found if you look for it. I am blessed because of the people I follow. Some are photographers that I can learn from and share ideas with. Others are Christian women who are sharing Biblical truth each and every day and helping me grow in my faith. Others are maybe just small business owners who are trying to do the same thing I'm doing. Obviously, we can be thankful all year long, but I am thankful for the community I've found through Instagram. It's not a replacement for real-life community, but it's wonderful nonetheless. I hope you've had a nice time with social media! Do you try to encourage and build up the people you follow?

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
