Growing up, my family spent a lot of time together. Being homeschooled, my mom, brothers, and I were together pretty much all day every day. But my dad positioned his work schedule so that he was home between 3:30 and 4 most nights. We had dinner together almost every day. Then we grew up and family time became much harder to come by. Recently, we started fighting for our family time by designating one night a week as "family night".
We did it!!!!! We finally got their photo session scheduled!!! But it was a challenge for the best reasons, because they got to go on several amazing family trips this summer. I'm so glad they got to have those precious experiences!
Okay, I know that every photographer says they have the best clients but I think this family actually might win an objective contest of the best clients ever! You'd never know it from the pictures but it was not a very comfortable temperature, some members of the family were not feeling 100%, and we gotten eaten ALIVE by mosquitos! We just shot super fast! I probably left them breathless :)
If you have little kids or your kids are home a lot more now, it might be hard to do the things you're used to doing each day. But kids don't have to get in the way, in fact, it's good for them and you if they are included in the daily routines!!!
This is the photo session that very nearly didn't happen! With three children out of state, a new baby ready to come any day, plus the ever-present factor of covid, it was down to the wire but I am so happy for Mark & Esther that it happened! Almost all their children and grandchildren together in one place. I'm sure they've been looking forward to it all year.
I love working with returning clients!!!! Seeing how kids have grown over the course of a year and building on our relationship is such a pleasure. I was thrilled to hear from Michelle asking if I still had availability this year and even more pleased to know I could tell her "yes"!!
We took advantage of this highly unusual weather we've been having to do one last outdoor session and it was GORGEOUS!!! Evening sessions are always my favorite but evenings in the fall... it's unlike any other time of year.
The little guy was unsure of me at the beginning and by the end was bringing me leaves and running all around!! I think I made a new friend, which is always the goal!! You probably recognize a few familiar faces in this family! It's been such a privilege to get to know KC and Dawson through the many times we've worked together but I'd never met her family before. They were wonderful!!! KC and Dawson are blessed to have fun, genuine, loving families.
We had one shot at this. With work and school and more than half a dozen schedules to work out, it was this or nothing. I'd been praying for good weather since we set the date and woke up to the biggest thunderstorm I'd heard in a long time.
Praise the Lord, the rain stopped in plenty of time, the ground was not a muddy mess, and we had pretty nice weather, all things considered! |
Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
