It's funny how something seems so normal to you but then you start to realize that it really isn't normal at all! That is what's been happening to me as I realize my professional journey has been anything but normal!

I used to put my camera away when the session was "over". We were done with the official portion and now we were walking back to our cars. I no longer do that. Why? I'm going to share that with you today :)
You know how DOVE chocolates have those sayings inside the wrapper? Well, I had one recently that was a dare - "Take a weekend off of social media". That made me laugh, because I have been doing that for a long time now. But how have I gotten to where I am with how I use Instagram and what things have driven the changes? That's what I'm sharing today and I hope it can help you decide how to make Instagram work FOR YOU, not the other way around.
I've been batch writing my blog posts for a while now, but usually I'm just about a week or so ahead. I like to stay somewhat current so that if events happen that inspire me, I can write about them close to real time. It also allows me to easily fit in my sessions as they occur. I have a day each week that I sit down and write another week of blog posts but this month, I knew that would not necessarily be an option. I also was getting back on Instagram after a month off and knew that I needed a plan if I was going to show up without being stressed out. Enter, batching.
I am making a change to how I book sessions. I think the structure will be beneficial to both me and my clients. One thing I've learned in the four years I've been doing this now is that nothing is set in stone. So this new structure may be tweaked in the months and years to come but for now...
This is the second year that I've started the year by deleting Instagram. Last year, I was burned out from 2020 and that month away was so refreshing. I came back with a plan for the year and implemented it fairly well. This year, I'm reevaluating that plan.
2021 brought some amazing people in front of my camera and a lot of firsts for SJP. I got to experience new locations, try new things with my clients who are the best when it comes to adventures, and got some pretty incredible tools to help my business grow going forward!!!
I recently purchased a sample album and a sample layflat book so my clients can get a feel for what the product is like. I was pleased to discover that I also could get swatches of the cover materials I offer!!!
I can't believe I'm going to do this!!!! Remember Sarah's senior session that I just did? Well, I mentioned that I had done her brothers' senior portraits too and today I want to show you how this one family has been with me from the very beginning and how far I have come since 2017.
The other week, I experienced my second Instagram outage. Like the first one, I assumed it was my phone somehow and was very annoyed when I tried all the hacks and nothing worked. It didn't break my world, but I thought it was something on my end and I couldn't fix it. So I was actually glad to hear it was a problem with Instagram. But these outages really make me think about the wisdom of having all my eggs in one (or maybe two) baskets.

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
