It's not often that you meet someone for the first time and discover that you actually have some shared history! I am also continually amazed by the mothers that I get to serve who are welcoming me into their home in the first week after having a new baby! When Samantha reached out about their session and said she found me through my church's early childhood education program, I saw the last name and wondered if they were related to some people who are members at my church. I asked and that couple is the parents of Steve! It turns out that my parents were actually Steve and his sister's youth leaders :) AND they live in my old neighborhood! What a small world.
Samantha was absolutely the sweetest to work with. She was so on top of things and communication was a breeze. They lost power right before and we came up with a backup plan but, thankfully, the power came back on and we got to move ahead as planned. I always say that working with little kids is the best part of my job and big sister B was such a cute! She's definitely not shy and she did an amazing job with the photos. It's clear how much she loves her new little brother. I can tell she's going to be a great sister. I also have to give a shout-out to rock star Auntie who came over to help with B when she wasn't in photos. Not everyone has local family who can be present at a newborn session but it is always great for the siblings to have someone to focus on them when everyone else is giving the baby all the attention. Another thing I love is when families incorporate their family history into photos and they did that with Benjamin's newborn portraits. The shirt he is laying on honors and remembers Samantha's grandfather and the typewriter belonged to Steve's pastor grandfather. Isn't that so special?! Welcome, baby Benjamin and congratulations Mom, Dad, and Big Sister!
