The end of the year is rapidly approaching! At this point, I'm just ready to be done with election stuff. Anyone else? I think the only people who like this anymore are the people who's jobs are in politics :) Anyway... I digress. October was a busy and fun month. Let's dive in!

Some kids LOVE being in front of the camera and others... well, they're not as sure. Every one of them is different and in some cases, it just takes a bit of time to warm up to things. Other times, they just won't have it. No matter what, my job is to get your photos of your children so how do I get portraits of little ones who don't want to cooperate? It just takes some creativity.
"What do you consider the greatest accomplishment of your life?"
Maybe you're like me and you really haven't lived all that long. You might think you can't answer this question but just modify it to "so far" and tell us that! While I definitely get your traditional posed portraits, my favorite part of family sessions is the interaction images! These are loosely posed - I give a direction for you to follow and then I step back and capture the interaction - and slightly candid. It's these photos that usually end up having the most genuine smiles, which families LOVE!
Do you ever feel like we complain a lot about our work? (Am I complaining by mentioning this? Wouldn't that be ironic?) While we shouldn't ignore the hard things, I want to encourage us to celebrate the good things too! So let's share our favorite and least favorite parts of our jobs!
People talk a lot about work/life balance, especially as working from home or hybrid work has become more common. I think most of us know that it is important but some of us are better at it than others. This week's question deals with that.
There is something so special about photographing a newborn in the family's home. While it doesn't work for some people - and that's okay - I love it because I think it helps the whole family feel relaxed, especially if the older siblings are still young children themselves. But it's also a big deal to invite a photographer into your home soon after having a new baby so I don't take that honor lightly!
I love getting to work with repeat clients and seeing how excited the older children are! The oldest child met me at the door with a photo she had drawn for me :) It's the sweetest thing in the world! Ah, October. The month I don't know what to do with. I've heard people say that our bodies start to slow down in the fall, anticipating winter, and I definitely feel more sluggish in October. Not exactly unmotivated, but more like I'm just ambling through the month. Like a walk with no specific destination. Can anyone else relate?

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
